Here&#8217;s my brief, bullet-pointed review, along with some of my favorite talks.<\/p>\n<h2>The good<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Extremely well organized &#8212; had an overflow room where you could switch between talks if you weren\u2019t sure which to attend<\/li>\n<li>Included a good number of soft-skill presentations; provided a nice variety<\/li>\n<li>Good speakers &#8212; a good mix of \u201ccelebs\u201d like Troy Hunt, Jon Skeet, but also other great, lesser-known ones<\/li>\n<li>Good food! Great coffee! (they had booths with pour over and pretty good espresso)<\/li>\n<li>Easy to get to &#8212; arriving from the airport to the city is a breeze<\/li>\n<li>I left the conference feeling refreshed and motivated to do cool things &#8212; more than any other event I\u2019d attended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The bad<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Norway can be a bit pricey, depending on where you&#8217;re coming from, especially when you consider the taxes<\/li>\n<li>On that note &#8212; the final cost of the ticket surprised me a bit, because of the 25% of VAT. \u00a0The cost for the 3-day conference pass was published at 12,900 NOK (about $1508 USD), but the final ticket cost was $1,948.60 USD\n<ul>\n<li>However, with food and other goodies, I thought it was pretty good value overall<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It wasn\u2019t hard to find good hotels for $100 &#8211; $150 a night.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All the videos are now available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PL03Lrmd9CiGewi0lbnahxEpisoP5WZocX\">YouTube<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Some of my favorite talks:<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Fuac__g928E&amp;list=PL03Lrmd9CiGewi0lbnahxEpisoP5WZocX&amp;index=1\">Microservices and Rules Engines<\/a> \u2013 a blast from the past <\/strong>by Udi Dahan<br \/>\nUdi describes times when encapsulation breakdown in a micro-service oriented architecture &#8212; and how rules engine can be a nice solution to them.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CSPSvBeqJ9c&amp;list=PL03Lrmd9CiGewi0lbnahxEpisoP5WZocX&amp;index=142\">State of .NET Performance<\/a> &#8211; Adam Sitnick<\/strong><br \/>\nValueTuple; Span (working with unmanaged memory); ValueTask. Pretty good stuff.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yj9GKRxFxVU&amp;index=166&amp;list=PL03Lrmd9CiGewi0lbnahxEpisoP5WZocX\"><strong>C# 7<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; Jon Skeet<br \/>\nA nice refresher on all the latest lang features. He ran a bit out of time, unfortunately.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BQE8HmD7-vk&amp;list=PL03Lrmd9CiGewi0lbnahxEpisoP5WZocX&amp;index=99\">Beyond step-by step debugging in Visual Studio<\/a> &#8211;\u00a0Tess Fernandez<\/strong><br \/>\nTess describes using procdump to debug your applications; DebugDiag to diagnose, as well as WinDBg to analyze.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lsUgwfK9XIM&amp;index=150&amp;list=PL03Lrmd9CiGewi0lbnahxEpisoP5WZocX\">Using C#&#8217;s Type System Effectively<\/a> &#8211; Benjamin Hodgson<\/strong><br \/>\nBenjamin\u2019s talk about expressing ideas (in particular, an abstract expression tree) using C#\u2019s type system. Really good!<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EcGH6hQxY8A&amp;index=93&amp;list=PL03Lrmd9CiGewi0lbnahxEpisoP5WZocX\">Banish Your Inner Critic<\/a> &#8211; Denise Jacobs<\/strong><br \/>\nA really inspiring talk to help us unleash our creative side and help us build stuff without so much self-criticism.
